the last of the tomatoes, i've run out of room in the garden for more. and the second round of watermelon seedlings after i killed over half of the original lot when i transplanted them to bigger pots.

this was supposed to be chinese kale, but this bin keeps sprouting tomato seedlings by the ton. i think either the tortoise pooped out a bunch of tomato seeds that got mixed in the bin, or else ate a lot of tomatoes in this bin and the seeds got scattered. seriously this bin has sprouted three different rounds of excessive tomato seedlings! and i sure as heck didnt plant any in here.

the cantelope vines were getting REALLY long, stretching out everywhere.


this front garden isnt doing so well. the three sedum i had there werent doing well because i kept watering everything else they were interplanted with. the canterbury bells in the middle really took off this year. they're biennials. last year they were just weird little flat green plants. this year they're 2-3 feet tall!


the tulips did well, and of course i forgot to get a picture when they were all in bloom. and the orange daylilies are going gangbusters.


this weird plant popped up next to the canterbury bells. each of those little round leaf looking things, upon closer examination looked a little more like elm tree seeds. i dont know what it was, so i yanked it out.

greenhouse, dogs, planting tomatoes

i drilled a hole and screwed in a hook so that i could make the greenhouse door stay open on its own. up til now i've been using a planter to hold the door open. otherwise the wind blows it shut.


tied a short length of rope into a loop around the handle so i can easily 'unhook' the rope and shut the door if needed.

i cut a piece of wood and screwed it to the wall in the greenhouse so i could hang some tools rather than have them rest on the ground and take up space and fall over. i kept knocking EVERYTHING over.


i drilled holes and screwed in these little tool holder hooks.


puppy, napping in the sun. these silly black dogs LOVE laying in the hot hot sun.


mollys lump/sebaceous cyst is finally flat again. it drained for a month before flattening out. and it continued to leak for another month before it finally healed all the way. but now its fully healed and the skin has shrunk back so that theres only a dime sized hairless spot. and i can only find it because i had to shave the hair to clean it and that shaved hair, while its grown back, is still shorter than surrounding hair.


every year i save my eggshells in the freezer and when it comes time to plant my tomatoes, i pull this bag out.


i toss a handful of crushed eggshells into the bottom of each hole, before i plant the tomatoes


then i plant the tomatoes like normal. i had such trouble with blossom end rot. and since i started doing this three years ago, no more problems.

i got this neat velcro plant tie stuff. the green side is tiny velcro, and the white side is soft so as not to damage the plant.

the hennepin technical college had their annual spring plant sale and i picked up an orchid.


its pretty. i'm not sure i can keep it alive. i know nothing of orchids.

i love lilacs. they smell so yummy. and its wonderful smell is not recreated well at all. candles and lotions that are *supposedly* lilac scented, they never smell right.

watermelon and cantelope seedlings. the grow light is deliberately angled so the bulbs are close to the shorter cantelope seedlings, but not touching the taller watermelon seedlings.
