seedlings!

my brother and his wife gave me some cherry tomato seeds for xmas two years ago. sweetpea adores the cherry tomatoes, so i planted them again this year for her. they saved the seeds themselves, and some of the seeds were in clumpsand i was too lazy to break them up this year. so i just planted them that way. i didnt expect EVERY single seed to sprout, but they did!


oh boy did they ever! WHOOPS!


i really wasnt expecting that to happen...


so i did some thinning


rather than pull the extras out, i just grabbed the scissors and cut them off.

the new hose reel i had to buy because the old one broke last fall. and its difficult to wrangle 100 feet of hose without a hose reel.

organizing seeds

my seed catalogs, box of seeds, and seed list

when i empty a packet of seeds, i cross it off my list. when i order new seeds, i write them on that list. then i can see at a glance what i need to order each spring. i list the plant, the variety, the year the seeds were packed (date on the packet), and the company the seeds came from. that way i can get rid of the old seeds too. some seeds stay good for longer than others. onions seeds in particular dont germinate well after the first year or two.

i redid my seed box so instead of going from front to back in one long row, its divided sideways into three short rows.

daylily seeds

my dads daylilies produced pods last fall. so my dad collected the pods and gave me the seeds. i've never grown daylilies from seeds, only from bulbs. another grand experiment!

so many seeds

i have a few seeds...

they're organized by when i can plant them: 'start indoors' 'cool weather' and 'warm weather'.

because i cant remember shit, when i go thru the seed catalogs, i have to make lists of which seed catalogs were selling which seeds. then i can look at the list and figure out which catalog has everything i want that year. but even then, i had to order from three different companies to get the seeds i wanted this year.


getting the back bedroom ready for starting seeds. my grow light setup. and the old shower curtain i use to protect my hardwood floors from all the dirt i spill and water too. i'm a messy gardener. the shower curtain makes cleanup easier.
