first buy 12 pounds of cherries on sale (found them for $1.99 a pound at aldi). pull all their stems off, and discard any squishy/icky ones.
there were a few conjoined cherries
wash them all up
start cooking the syrup. we used 16 cups water to 3 cups sugar.
pit all the cherries. wear gloves, they stain EVERYTHING. helps to have another person there to take turns with. your hand gets tired pitting that many cherries.
saved the pits for my compost bin
fill up the jars with cherries and syrup
then put in the canner
we got 17 pints of cherries. (we did cherries on the same day as jam)
