puddles and mud

this side of my yard sometimes melts into a gigantic puddle. the neighbor has nowhere to put all the snow from his driveway except into the narrow strip of yard between our houses. and this strip of yard is always in the shade. the grass there actually grows moss sometimes. so the snow that is put there is the very last to melt. the snow dams up the melting snow from my yard, preventing it from draining out to the street. and the ground was still frozen, so the puddle had nowhere to go. eventually either enough snow melts for the puddle to drain, or the ground thaws enough to suck up the water. usually the gigantic puddle only hangs around a couple days when it does happen, and it doesnt happen every year. but with the dogs plowing thru it to bark at the mailman every day, it makes a big mess.

the other side of the yard, where the dogs have worn a path killing off the grass no matter what i try to do.

there really was grass there last fall. i worked hard to get it to grow last year. then spring comes and the dogs paws tear it all to hell again.
