my solitary pear

one tree put out one pear this year. it was from the 'parker' pear tree. since this is only their second summer here in the ground, they're still a bit young for them to be putting any fruit out.



the leaves on that tree started to turn a bit yellow, so i picked the lone pear this weekend. i think i may have picked it too soon. even sitting in a bowl with apples, its still pretty hard. i'm new to this whole pear tree stuff so i dont quite know when to pick them other than before they're ripe. i'll have to go dig up my notes and re-read them. i need to refresh my memory on how to properly prune them this winter as well. a couple of the trees threw a lot of extremely long vertical water sprout type branches. if i remember right, i'm supposed to prune those back...
